When I first started this website, Over The Rainbow was nothing more than a visualization exercise. I was creating a website about what I was hoping would eventually exist, perhaps in a few years.
But a few days after Christmas, some family members came over to see my baby nephew, who was visiting at the time. I started talking to one of my aunts about my vision for Over The Rainbow. She thought it was a great idea, and she suggested that I start taking steps towards making it a reality, even if it just meant doing research and stuff.
It didn't take me long to figure out that getting a program like this started would not be very difficult. In fact, the only things really standing between me and Over The Rainbow are start-up funds, and a location. If I can get those two aspects secured, then the children and families will follow!
I am really hoping to secure a location by this summer. I will get the place set up, and open for drop-in hours over the summer. The Tuesday after Labor Day will mark the first day of preschool! (I hear that is when the public schools out in Portland open for the school year, and I am trying to follow their school calendar to make things a little easier for families who have older kids attending school.)
For those of you who are interested, here are some tentative examples of things you and your children might get to do during Drop-In Play hours this summer... make a rain forest in a jar to bring home, go on an indoor camping trip, dig for sea shells, hunt for moon rocks, and paint with bubbles!
I'm really excited. Every time I think about it, I feel like jumping up and down!
If you want to get updated when we are close to opening, and an invitation to our special opening event, make sure to fill out the WANT MORE INFO form on the home page of http://angelsrainbow.weebly.com.
